HVAC Summer Checklist
- Set the thermostat to 78 degrees Fahrenheit or purchase a programmable thermostat.
- Ventilate attics and crawl spaces to avoid heat exposure by adding or enlarging vents. Pro tip: Light-colored roof shingles reflect the sun’s heat.
- Use blinds/curtains and install awnings over windows to block out sunlight.
- Don't run kitchen/bath exhaust fans unless you are using them.
- Don't place heat-producing devices beneath a wall-mounted thermostat. Rising heat from those devices may cause the air conditioning system to keep running even though it’s cool.
- Inspect and clean blower assembly (housing, wheel, and motor). It’s important that the systems are tuned up properly.
- On older models, lubricate motor and inspect and replace fan belt if needed.
- Check combustion blower housing for lint and debris and clean as necessary.
- Inspect evaporator coil, drain pan and condensate drain lines. Clean as needed.
- Inspect control box, associated controls, wiring, and connections.
- Clean or replace air filters on a regular basis.
- Inspect conditioned airflow system for leaks.
- Monitor system starting and listen for abnormal noises.
- Measure temperature rise and adjust the airflow as needed.
- Check batteries in thermostat for proper operation of your system.
- Keep shrubbery or objects at least two feet away from your outdoor unit.
- Call Engineered Comfort Specialist to check your system for proper operation and maintenance to avoid purchasing a new unit.
