HVAC Summer Checklist

Set the thermostat to 78 degrees Fahrenheit or purchase a programmable thermostat.
Ventilate attics and crawl spaces to avoid heat exposure by adding or enlarging vents. Pro tip: Light-colored roof shingles reflect the sun’s heat.
Use blinds/curtains and install awnings over windows to block out sunlight.
Don't run kitchen/bath exhaust fans unless you are using them.
Don't place heat-producing devices beneath a wall-mounted thermostat. Rising heat from those devices may cause the air conditioning system to keep running even though it’s cool.
Inspect and clean blower assembly (housing, wheel, and motor). It’s important that the systems are tuned up properly.
On older models, lubricate motor and inspect and replace fan belt if needed.
Check combustion blower housing for lint and debris and clean as necessary.
Inspect evaporator coil, drain pan and condensate drain lines. Clean as needed.
Inspect control box, associated controls, wiring, and connections.
Clean or replace air filters on a regular basis.
Inspect conditioned airflow system for leaks.
Monitor system starting and listen for abnormal noises.
Measure temperature rise and adjust the airflow as needed.
Check batteries in thermostat for proper operation of your system.
Keep shrubbery or objects at least two feet away from your outdoor unit.
